One of the premiere players in the game of baseball today, Grady Sizemore has set a new standard for Major League Baseball center fielders. Born on August 2, 1982, in Seattle, Washington, Grady was so successful during his youth that he became fortunate enough to get drafted by the Montreal Expos straight out of high school. When the Expos handed him a $2 million signing bonus, he decided to pass up a college opportunity at the University of Washington. As a three-sport athlete, Grady shined in high school as a football, basketball, and baseball superstar. His gut instincts told him that baseball was his strongest sport, and his decision to pursue a career as a center fielder has certainly paid its dividends.

2006 brought similar success to Grady, and it became clear that his performance as a center fielder was beginning to improve. With 7 outfield assists and only 3 errors, Cleveland fans loved the fire that Sizemore provided to the Indians ball club. In addition, Sizemore demonstrated consistency in his ability at the plate when he knocked out 28 home runs and drove in 76 RBI’s. His durability as an every day player was crucial to the success of the Indians, as Grady appeared in all 162 games during the 2006 season. Cleveland fans weren’t the only ones who longed to see the emerging superstar; as he gained national exposure, Grady’s stunning good looks made him famous with the women as well.

At just 25 years old, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Grady as a future Most Valuable Player candidate. In his young career, he has already made two all-star appearances, and it is likely that he will only improve as the years go by. As one of the most consistent lead-off hitters in the game today, Grady has already made his impact known throughout Major League Baseball. It will be very interesting to see how this young superstar develops in the seasons to come.
