Your heart is a well-tuned organ that pumps blood to the lungs before circulating it to the rest of your body. Blood flows through your heart from the right side to the left side. Located between the left atrium and ventricle is the mitral valve. It regulates flow of blood between the two chambers. Unfortunately, for many reasons, this mitral valve can stop working properly. This can cause several complications that may become dangerous if left unattended, over time. Regurgigation is a very common disorder that affects the Mitral Valve. Regurgitation takes place when the valve does not close completely. Its two leaflets do not seal the opening and this causes a back flow problem. Stenosis is rare, but is occasionally present in people who suffered rheumatic fever when they were young. The patient’s immune system then reacted to the fever by attacking this valve’s leaflets. This causes the leaflets to stiffen and thicken. Hence, they do not open as widely as they should. The goal of mitral valve repair is to correct both regurgitant or stenotic leaflets.
Unfortunate and poor families with sick children who can’t afford medical care can find relief knowing that the orphanages in India are taking care of their children as well.
There are a lot of doctors, nurses who work in orphanages in India and who are willing to offer their support and their specialized help, by treating so many preventable illnesses that occur in children. Most of them are underweight; their small, frail bodies can’t defend themselves in face of any minor infection. Every minor cold can kill them and the parents can’t do anything about this.
But they can find comfort in knowing that the orphanages are there for them: day and night, helping children fight diseases who can otherwise be so easily treated if they just have enough money. They thank their Gods every day that these institutions exist and they can appeal to them and now one is asking them for money.
